WHY LIVE MIND MENTORING?
Education often shuts down rather than nurturing student interest, confidence, creativity. All it takes is one misguided voice insisting "You're not good at this" to lead students to believe they're incapable or will never achieve something they could one day excel at. Too many students insist "I'm not a good writer" or "Language Arts will always be hard for me" because they haven't been given the opportunity to explore how they ARE writers and readers with exciting minds and unique perspectives — and to encounter inspiring materials and authors that value and reflect their life experiences and interests.
WHO IS LIVE MIND?
Casey Jarrin, Ph.D. (Dr. J) has been teaching and mentoring students for over 10 years. Since earning her Ph.D. (Duke) and B.A. (Yale), she's taught English at Macalester College in Saint Paul, facilitated community workshops through the Minnesota Humanities Center, served on a K-12 school board, designed student-centered curriculum responsive to individual learning needs, and led enrichment workshops in writing, critical thinking, intercultural learning, documentary photography. Through weekly sessions and 12-week workshops, Live Mind builds student confidence, develops critical thinking skills, and prepares students for classroom, college, and professional success.
