A safe & affirming community facilitated by Dr. J (a PhD survivor!) to help you navigate the transformative intellectual-emotional experience of being a new graduate student: the unexpected joys & challenges, inevitable frustrations, structural biases & logistical nightmares, highs & lows (& everything in between) of entering this new moment in your personal & academic path.
Designed to support those entering Masters (MA, MS, MPP, MFA), PhD, Law, RN/PA/MD programs this year (though also open to those in their 2nd year or beyond!)
100% confidential & completely separate from your home program/department, with a remarkable group of fellow grad students across a range of disciplines, programs, and institutions — all going through similar growing pains of the transition to grad school.
Together we'll explore every layer of the grad school experience & I’ll provide guidance (based in my own experience of being a PhD student, professor, academic & thesis advisor, and mentor to students across disciplines):
Navigate your new academic-social community & home, Make human connections
Claim your voice, Build your confidence, Embrace the value of your ideas
Trust yourself, Resist the impulse to compare yourself to others
Find supportive advisors you can communicate with & learn from
Select courses that will empower you & inspire next steps in your work
Build new relationships, Manage stress, Find balance
Apply to grants, fellowships, postdocs, labs; Celebrate small (and big!) victories
Honor your mind-body rhythms, be a healthy human
Dr. J will share resources & wisdom for the practical-emotional-intellectual aspects of moving through these first months of a grad program, facilitate focused conversations & activities, guide us through mindfulness & self-care practices, all through a trauma-informed lens that respects each individual's needs, dreams, boundaries.
* Group meets in live Zoom video calls with accompanying Google Drive resources
