Tara M. Williams (she/her)
MFA & BFA, Creative Writing
I’m excited to nurture creative community and empower individuals to express themselves in writing, at any stage of their creative journey. I’ve been honored to teach across international contexts, from primary students in the Western Cape (South Africa) to undergraduates at George Mason University (Virginia), in addition to more than a decade developing and leading innovative trainings for Fortune 500 tech companies. At the core of my teaching philosophy is a persistent urge to demystify and deconstruct archaic notions of what writing should be, rethink outdated student-teacher hierarchies, and dissolve binaries which limit our understanding of Truth, and therefore our access to Joy. Currently inspired by Federico García Lorca’s poetry, the textures of Lana del Rey’s music, Galadriel the High Elf, and dark coffee.
Favorite place on earth: It used to be geographical places – Sanibel Island, Florida; Stellenbosch, South Africa; Sardinia, Italy. Now, it’s mostly moments from my past that etch into my memory, a little treasure trove of longing and love tattooed into my psyche; or daily treats, like being snuggled underneath cashmere in the winter. That’s a nice place to be.
Something I wish I’d known when I was 18: Boundaries
Most incredible thing I’ve ever seen: The face of someone I love
