Journaling helps us shape the story of our becoming. Four sessions will equip you with the time + tools to make the most of your practice.

4 Saturdays in March
March 4, March 11, March 18, March 25
12 noon EST (9am PST)

75 minutes each | 5 hours over the full series
Capped at 12 participants
$225

The narratives we tell ourselves about our lives are powerful. Journaling can help us consciously shape that story of our becoming. It is a tool for us to understand ourselves, give us perspective, unearth new insights, process events and emotions, and flex creative muscles. Journaling offers a way to carve out essential time and space for yourself, even if just for a few minutes at a time.

In these workshops we will talk about what journaling can look like, explore approaches that will expand your reflective practice, discuss ways to get started or unstuck, and practice concrete skills to make it happen.

These workshops are about cultivating new practices and building community together. In each session, we’ll have in-workshop practice time as well as space for collaborative brainstorming, idea-sharing, feedback.

Saturdays in March
All sessions take place live on Zoom.

Session Overview

March 4: Putting Words on the Page
What do we mean when we talk about journaling? We’ll share ways to get started, ideas for tools and platforms, and explore the how and why of journaling together.

March 11: Letting Go of Perfection
Deepening exercises and talking about how this is an anti-perfection space, a space of radical authenticity and honesty with yourself (don’t censor, don’t craft!). It can be so liberating to let go of perfection.

March 18: The Journaling Toolbox
Brainstorming where to anchor this in your habits and routine. Sharing prompts and strategies for when you’re stuck or not sure what to write about.

March 25: Growing with Your Practice
Discussion on what feelings, breakthroughs, inspiration, and challenges have come up in the last few weeks of journaling practice.

About the Facilitator: Emily H. Cox

Emily H. Cox (she/they)
BA, Cultural Studies

I am a queer survivor who engages with the world through writing. I hold a BA in Cultural Studies from Macalester College, and have written for Kansas City’s The Pitch since 2019, including investigative reporting, first person experiential essays, and art criticism. I’ve been honored to help writers of all ages cultivate their creative practice across New Orleans, Kansas City, and virtual communities. I currently live on the road with my dog, Apollo: writing, camping, hiking, climbing, stargazing.

If I could be anywhere, I’d be in a cabin in the woods by a lake, mountains just in the distance, with a studio to write in where I can smell the trees and hear the birds.
